Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I know which pieces of Fiesta® dinnerware to select?

Buying dishes is something that most of us don't do too many times in our lives. Because Fiesta® dinnerware is so durable, so timeless and so versatile, we believe that you won't need another set of dishes. Over time, you may want to add different serving pieces or increase the number of place settings that you have. But basically, what you are buying is something that will serve you and generations after you. Many of us are using Fiesta® dinnerware dishes that belonged to our grandmothers. Some of the Fiesta® colors are no longer manufactured but they coordinate beautifully with their contemporary counterparts. So, back to the question - What pieces do I want?

    PLACE SETTINGS:
Fiesta® dinnerware place settings are a staple in thousands of homes across the world. The place settings typically consist of a Fiesta® dinnerware dinner plate, a Fiesta® dinnerware salad plate, a Fiesta® dinnerware medium bowl and a Fiesta® dinnerware ring-handled mug, java mug or cup and saucer. So, here are suggestions based on the size of your family but remember that more in the case of Fiesta® dinnerware is always better! A family of two would want at least four Fiesta® dinnerware place settings. If you entertain regularly, you should consider service for eight.

Service for four - A family of four would want at least eight place settings.

Service for eight - If you entertain regularly, you should consider service for 12. A family of six or more should have at least 12 place settings.

Entertaining - For entertaining, consider increasing to 18 or you could purchase extra Fiesta® dinnerware dinner plates and Fiesta® dinnerware salad plates.

    SERVING PIECES:
You will probably want several Fiesta® dinnerware serving bowls and several Fiesta® dinnerware serving platters. Two to three of each in various sizes should enable you to serve most meals. There are numerous options for platters and you can check them out here.

SERVING PLATTERS: Here are some favorites: Large Oval Platters - 13 ½ inches in length, This platter and its two smaller sister platters are ideal for meat, vegetables, various hor d'oevres or cut-up fruit. Medium Oval Platters - 12 ½ inches in length, Small Oval Platters - 11 ½ inches in length, Large Pizza Tray (Calling it a pizza tray is somewhat of a misnomer and it really does sell this incredible platter short. This platter is excellent for everything from meat, a few dozen cookies, a terrific cake, fruit, cheese and crackers, or other hors d'oevres. Small Pizza Tray (Much like its larger counterpart, this small pizza platter, sometimes referred to as a cake plate, is incredible.

    SERVING BOWLS:
There are even more options for Fiesta® dinnerware serving bowls. From the deep serving bowl to a simple ramekin, the Fiesta® dinnerware line has a full complement of bowls for virtually all serving needs.

    KITCHEN ESSENTIALS:
With Fiesta® dinnerware, you have so many choices of how to set up your kitchen that it's hard to say what you should have. But there are a few kitchen musts. Here they are:

    • A Covered Casserole - Once you own this incredibly useful piece of Fiesta® dinnerware, you will wonder how you ever cooked a meal without it. The Fiesta® covered casserole holds a glorious 70 ounces and can go from the refrigerator to the microwave to the conventional oven to your table with total ease and grace. Are you sold yet? Take our word for it on this piece!
    • A Large Disk Pitcher - Even if you have no need for a disk pitcher, you will want this for display in your kitchen. This classic Fiesta® dinnerware pitcher brings an immediate air of fun and vibrancy to any kitchen.
    • Salt and Pepper Shakers - We carry two styles. One is called rangetop and the other we refer to as the “globe” style salt and pepper shakers.
    • A Utensil Crock - Calling this incredibly useful Fiesta® dinnerware crock a utensil crock does not even begin to capture its versatility.(We know one woman who uses hers for flower arrangements. Another uses the crocks to hold her knitting needles and we believe that I have found the best use: We use them for breadsticks! We are sure that you will find even better uses. Or, you may just want it for utensils!)
    • A Sauce Boat - This may be the single most useful piece of Fiesta® dinnerware. (You can pair it with a small or a medium oval platter for a complete look.)

  • Are transactions secure?

Any transaction made on this site is secure. You do not have to worry about your credit card number circulating in cyberspace. All credit card numbers are destroyed immediately and when you re-order from us, we will have to ask for your credit card number again. We never even see your credit card number. It is all done electronically. Our site carries the highest Internet protections and is authorized by Thwaite.

  • How do I care for my new Fiesta® Dinnerware?

The beauty of Fiesta® Dinnerware is that it requires no special care. It can go from your oven to your sink to your dishwasher and make stops along the way on your table or your refrigerator. It requires no special soap. Some pieces will show minor scratches over time. Some of the darker colors tend to show more scratching. (Cobalt and Black, for instance, do tend to show some scratching.) You can use your dishes in any oven – microwave, convection or conventional.

  • Are there imperfections on pottery?

It would be unthinkable to tell an artist that you see a mistake on his or her creation. This is also the case with many pieces of pottery. All pottery has imperfections. These imperfections can range from tiny pin-hole sized flecks that are slightly raised to minute areas where you may see slight color variation. On the site, www.zestydishes.com, we sell ONLY first quality Fiesta® dinnerware pieces. What this means is that the pieces you buy from Zesty Dishes will be free – for the most part – from any serious imperfections. But some imperfections add to the overall character of Homer Laughlin’s Fiesta® dinnerware. We do operate another site, www.saveonseconds.com, where we do sell pieces that have visible and more significant imperfections. But please know that creating pottery is a combination of art, science and math. At its essence, it is an imprecise process. Each piece may vary slightly in color or appearance.

  • What Is the Story of Hall China?

We all love Fiesta® Dinnerware. That goes without saying. But there are some pieces that you really do need that aren’t manufactured in the Fiesta® Dinnerware line. For instance, have you ever tried to serve a turkey on a Fiesta® Dinnerware large platter? While the Fiesta® Dinnerware large platter, which measures 13 ½ inches, is a great size for many things, it just won’t do for a turkey. And, how about soup? Cooking soup and serving it (especially the recipes which call for it to be baked in a tureen) is nearly impossible with products from the Fiesta® Dinnerware line. So, that is why we have scoured available pottery manufacturers for pieces that complement Fiesta® Dinnerware. We didn’t have to look very far. In fact, only a few miles down the Ohio River, there is a fantastic company, The Hall China Company. The Hall China Company has similar values of the Homer Laughlin China Company. They are both family-owned companies. They are both totally dedicated to producing their products in the United States. They are both totally obsessed with quality. They also share an understanding of the importance of design.
